Medical Literacy, Community, & Well-Being
Understanding healthcare should not depend on the language you speak.
The Health Bridge Program connects trained bilingual student volunteers with patients in underserved and immigrant communities to help them better understand medical information. Our volunteers explain diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up instructions in the patient’s native language, making healthcare more accessible and easier to navigate.
Many patients leave medical visits confused due to language barriers and complex terminology, which can lead to missed follow-ups and improper care. By breaking down medical information into clear, simple language, we help patients feel more confident, improve communication with providers, and support better health outcomes.
The Health Bridge Program is a community-based iniative focused on increasing health literacy and empowering underserved communities to better understand and navigate healthcare.
